Any time after the age of 40, it is a good idea to have a hearing baseline done. Your eyes and your ears can start to show signs of wear and tear. It should only take about 15 minutes.

Other reasons to have your hearing evaluated: you’re turning up the volume on the television, you have trouble hearing people when there is background noise present or your family tells you it’s time to have your hearing evaluated. They are using too much energy to communicate with you.

Everyone’s experience with hearing aids is different. Our brains process differently, our hearing loss is different and our expectations are different. Additionally, there is a lot of room for error when purchasing a hearing aid. If you take the right steps and educate yourself, you have a better chance of being successful.

There is an easy 7-step process:

1. See an Audiologist

2. Understand your hearing exam

3. Choose a style that is appropriate for your hearing loss

4. Choose a level of technology that fits your lifestyle and budget.

5. Go back for follow-up appointments

6. Understand your warranty and trial period

7. Have realistic expectations

Go to your Audiologist (or get a second opinion from someone new). Have your hearing re-evaluated and your hearing aids reprogrammed. Sometimes just a little tweaking can change everything. You don’t always need to buy new hearing aids if you are not happy with your current devices.

Hearing aids will not make your hearing worse! Your brain is like a muscle. You use it, or lose it! Hearing aids are designed to reintroduce sounds to your brain that it has not heard in a while. They are great exercise for your brain!

Hearing aids are expensive for a couple reasons. One, there is a lot of research that goes into making hearing aids smaller and more efficient every year. But besides that, when you purchase hearing devices, you are most likely purchasing a service package from your Audiologist. This may cover all of your hearing aid cleanings, reprogramming, etc. This will help you take care of your hearing devices for as long as you have them.

We accept many insurance plans. Though Medicare does not offer coverage for hearing aids, often a supplemental plan can help. Please call our office to have our insurance specialist verify your coverage. They can do that before you come in to visit us!
